HANDLING AND UPKEEP OF STAINLESS STEEL FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES

Non-magnetizable chrome-nickel steels and magnetizable chrome steels with a chromium content of at least 12% are designated stainless steel.

The corrosion resistance of Incoloy 800H Pipe is due to a passivation layer that forms on the metal surface in contact with oxygen. The oxygen present in the air is sufficient for this. Chemically destroyed and oxidative damage will occur even if it is stainless steel. Furthermore, stainless steels are not completely resistant to some chemical compounds.

Heavy layers of dirt that contain chlorine salts or foreign rust, in certain circumstances can produce over time colorations or corrosion on the Inconel 600 Tubing surface.

WHEN HANDLING STAINLESS STEEL FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES, THE FOLLOWING BASIC POINTS MUST BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT:

  • The stainless steel surface must always be kept clean and accessible to the air. Some deposits can cause corrosion under certain working conditions due to lack of oxygen. These marks of use, as well as the remains of cleaning products, must be removed immediately.
  • The stainless steel exterior must be reserved undamaged. Damage caused by use, cleaning or repair work due to hard metal objects, especially non-stainless materials, should be avoided.
  • The stainless steel surface must not remain in contact with normal stainless steel or iron for a long period of time. If stainless steel comes into contact with iron or normal steel, e.g. For example, through filings, steel wool, traces of metal barbed brushes or ferruginous water, chemical elements are produced that cause continuous corrosion on their own.
  • Any foreign rusts that appear on Hastelloy C22 Tube should be removed immediately with a mild abrasive product or fine sandpaper. Coarse rusts can be removed with a stripper. These tasks should only be carried out by qualified personnel, due to the dangers involved.
  • Assembled appliances and modules should be cleaned each time they are used, as should table tops or other stainless steel parts. To clean stainless steel, use only cleaning products that does not contain active chlorine. Abrasive powders of any kind should be avoided, as well as cleaning products that contain chlorine or bleach.
  • When mechanical cleaning is required, metal cleaning devices should not be used, but brushes with natural or plastic bristles, plastic cleaning articles, sponges and the like should be used. During cleaning, plenty of water should be used. After each cleaning, surfaces must be thoroughly rinsed with clean water.
  • Make sure that you remove the cleaning product without leaving any residue, even in inaccessible corners and places.
  • Acid fumes that form, e.g. For example, cleaning tiles with preparations containing hydrochloric acid can also cause damage to stainless steel. In the event that the stainless steel parts accidentally come into contact with hydrochloric acid or with products containing such acid, rinse them immediately with plenty of water.

HARDY DIRT (WET AND GREASY)

Wash with synthetic cleaning supplies by adding a mild polishing or abrasive product. Glossy polished parts of Monel Tubing should be treated carefully as rough abrasive products can leave streaks or dull areas. The sanded surfaces can be cleaned without problem with common abrasive products, and in difficult cases even with a scouring pad.
